The Bijwasan Railway Station in Delhi is being transformed into a world-class mega hub to ease the pressure on major city stations. Located near IGI Airport and the Dwarka area, this project is designed to provide a seamless travel experience for passengers. What are the key features and facilities at Bijwasan Station?
The station is being built with a modern airport-style design to ensure comfort and efficiency. It will feature 8 platforms and 12 tracks, a significant increase from the original 2 platforms. The project, costing between ₹728.92 crore and ₹730 crore, covers an area of 1.24 lakh square meters. Passengers will have access to the following amenities:
- Air-conditioned concourses and modern waiting lounges
- Lifts, escalators, and foot over bridges
- Dedicated arrival and departure zones
- Improved parking and drop-off areas
- Washing and maintenance lines for trains
How will it impact Delhi’s rail connectivity and congestion?
Bijwasan will act as a gateway for trains heading toward Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. To reduce the load on New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Anand Vihar stations, around 60 important trains, including Rajdhani and Shatabdi, will be shifted here. It is being developed as a multi-modal transport hub with integrated connectivity to the Delhi Metro, a proposed flyover from Dwarka Expressway, and a planned Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Dwarka.
