Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated eight newly redeveloped stations under the North Central Railway (NCR) zone on July 17, 2026. This significant expansion brings the total count of Amrit Bharat stations in the NCR to 17, marking a major milestone in the ongoing modernisation of India’s railway infrastructure. The event was part of a massive nationwide rollout where 75 stations across 20 states were upgraded with an investment of approximately ₹1,570 crore.
- 8 new stations added to NCR: Vindhyachal, Panki Dham, Fatehpur, Chhatarpur, Harpalpur, Ding, Tikamgarh, and Bhind.
- Total progress: The NCR zone now has 17 completed Amrit Bharat stations, with an ambitious target of 46 stations in total.
- Nationwide impact: The ceremony included the inauguration of 75 stations across India and the historic flagging off of the first hydrogen train.
- Core philosophy: The projects follow the ‘Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi’ vision, balancing cultural heritage with modern amenities.
Modernising Passenger Experience
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which was launched by the Ministry of Railways in December 2022, is transforming the way passengers interact with railway infrastructure. The upgraded stations now feature 12-meter wide foot overbridges, expanded parking zones, and improved waiting areas. To ensure comfort, the stations have been equipped with modern toilet blocks and advanced platform shelters, significantly enhancing the overall passenger experience.
Accessibility and Local Integration
A key focus of these redevelopments is inclusivity. The new station designs include dedicated provisions for differently-abled passengers, such as accessible ramps, tactile pathways, lifts, and specially designed water booths. Furthermore, the stations are being integrated into the ‘One Station, One Product’ initiative, featuring kiosks that promote local artisans and regional goods. This multi-modal approach ensures that railway stations serve not just as transit points, but as hubs of local economic activity.
During the event, several dignitaries were present to mark the occasion, including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and NCR General Manager Naresh Pal Singh at the Tikamgarh site. As the NCR moves toward its goal of upgrading 46 stations, the railway continues to prioritize safety, accessibility, and high-tech infrastructure for millions of daily commuters.
