In a significant move to bolster rail connectivity across the Himalayan state and its neighboring regions, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami virtually inaugurated the new Ramnagar-Dehradun Express on July 18, 2026. This new bi-weekly service serves as a vital link for tourists, pilgrims, and local commuters, fulfilling a long-standing demand to streamline travel between key towns in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
Key highlights of the new train service include:
- Train Numbers: 15310 (Ramnagar to Dehradun) and 15309 (Dehradun to Ramnagar).
- Frequency: The train operates bi-weekly every Wednesday and Friday.
- Coach Composition: A 17-coach rake featuring AC 2-tier, AC 3-tier, sleeper, and general second class coaches.
- Strategic Connectivity: Stops include Kashipur, Roshanpur, Pipalsana, Moradabad, Najibabad, and Haridwar.
Schedule and Operational Details
The initiative was fast-tracked following a formal proposal submitted by BJP MP Anil Baluni in May 2026. The train is designed to provide a comfortable travel experience, with the 15310 Ramnagar-Dehradun Express departing Ramnagar at 5:50 AM and reaching Dehradun at 12:40 PM. On the return leg, the 15309 Dehradun-Ramnagar Express departs Dehradun at 3:55 PM and arrives at Ramnagar at 11:30 PM.
Boosting Tourism and Accessibility
This new rail link is expected to be a game-changer for those travelling to Corbett National Park and pilgrims embarking on the sacred Char Dham Yatra. By reducing both travel time and costs, the service provides a more efficient alternative to road travel. Addressing the launch, officials emphasized that the government remains committed to improving the quality of life for citizens through such infrastructure upgrades.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Railways has indicated that there are active plans to increase the frequency of this service to four or five days a week, depending on the volume of passenger demand observed in the coming months. This expansion will ensure that the growing number of visitors to the region can rely on consistent and affordable rail transport.
