Railway employees living in private houses in Begusarai will soon get official quarters. The rail administration has started the construction of new housing units in the Garhara railway colony. This move comes after many old buildings were declared unfit for living.
What is the current status of construction in Garhara
The construction work has begun in the eastern area of the Garhara railway colony. The administration is building 10 units of Type-2 and 8 units of Type-3 quarters. Work Inspector Sanjay Kumar Verma stated that the project will be completed within one year.
Which old colonies are being cleared
The administration removed several dilapidated double-story quarters that were declared abandoned. These clearances took place across multiple locations including:
- Loco Colony
- New Colony
- Gangabridge Colony
- Eastern Railway Colony
The vast colony was built about 65 years ago with around 2,000 houses, many of which had become unsafe for residents.
Why are new quarters being built now
The rail administration noted that younger employees were unwilling to stay in the old and decaying buildings. To solve this problem, the department decided to demolish the ruined structures and build modern quarters to encourage staff to move back into the railway colony.
