How was the checking drive conducted?
The operation was led by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Kartikeya Singh to stop revenue leakage. A special team consisting of Commercial Inspectors, TTEs, and RPF personnel blocked the exits and checked passengers on local and express trains. This drive is part of a larger plan by the Malda Division to reduce overcrowding in reserved coaches and ensure proper ticketing on the Bhagalpur route.
What are the rules for ticketless travel?
Passengers caught without a ticket are charged under Section 137 of the Railways Act. The penalty includes the actual fare plus a minimum excess charge of 250 rupees. If a passenger refuses to pay this amount, they can face legal action including imprisonment up to 6 months or a higher fine of 1,000 rupees.
