On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the Bihar Legislative Assembly took a significant step towards improving railway connectivity for daily commuters. During the session, the House officially adopted a resolution to recommend the running of a new pair of express trains between Chhapra and Patna. The state government has assured the assembly that this proposal will be immediately forwarded to the Central Government and the Ministry of Railways for further action.
What are the details of the Chhapra-Patna train proposal?
The resolution for the new train service was introduced by Chhapra MLA Chhoti Kumari. She highlighted the difficulties faced by passengers traveling from the Saran, Siwan, and Gopalganj districts to the state capital, Patna. Currently, the route sees a very heavy passenger load, making daily travel a struggle for students and office-goers.
Acknowledging the importance of this demand, Bihar’s Transport Minister Shravan Kumar stated that the government has no objection to the proposal. He confirmed that the state will send a formal recommendation to the Railway Board in New Delhi to start this service. Assembly Speaker Dr. Prem Kumar has also issued strict directions to the officials to process this recommendation without delay.
Which other railway projects were approved in the Assembly?
Out of 141 non-government resolutions presented in the House on Wednesday, only three railway-related proposals were accepted to be sent to the Center. Apart from the Chhapra-Patna train, the following demands were approved:
- Lohna-Muktapur Link: Initiated by MLA Maithili Thakur, this proposal seeks to connect the railway lines between Lohna and Muktapur in Darbhanga district. This is expected to help the development of the Ghanshyampur and Taradih blocks.
- Hathua Station Stoppage: A resolution by MLA Ramsevak Singh was passed to provide halts for long-distance trains at the Hathua railway station in Gopalganj district.
The remaining resolutions were withdrawn after the government gave assurances, but these three specific railway projects are now set to be reviewed by the Union Ministry of Railways.
