The Delhi Police successfully solved a complicated murder case involving a 39-year-old railway technician named Sandeep Kumar Malviya. The police tracked down a 17-year-old minor suspect after finding a small digital clue. A transaction of just ₹1 made through UPI played a major role in identifying the killer who had fled to Ghaziabad after the incident.
How the ₹1 Transaction Helped Police?
The investigation started after the victim went missing on January 25. His body was found days later in a locked room in the Gulabi Bagh area. The police noticed that the victim’s mobile phone and credit card were missing. During the technical analysis, officials found a test transaction of ₹1 made from the victim’s account. The suspect did this to check if the UPI PIN was working.
This small transaction created a digital footprint. The police traced the bank account receiving the money, which belonged to the minor living in Ghaziabad. Along with this, CCTV footage confirmed that the victim and the minor were seen travelling together in an auto-rickshaw before the crime took place.
Motive and Details of the Incident
After being caught, the 17-year-old confessed to the crime. He told the police that he met Sandeep near a bar in Paharganj. They went to a rented room where the victim allegedly demanded sexual favours while being drunk. The minor stated that he attacked Sandeep with a gas cylinder and used a glass shard to kill him.
The accused stole ₹2,000 cash and digital devices before leaving. He locked the door from the outside to hide the crime and slid the keys back inside. Since the accused is a juvenile, the legal process is being handled under the Juvenile Justice Act.
