Diwali Travel and Safety Regulations

As the festival of Diwali draws near, a significant influx of passengers is returning to their homes, leading to crowded trains. In light of this increased travel, Indian Railways has reiterated its stringent regulations regarding the transportation of flammable items. Specifically, there is a complete ban on carrying firecrackers and sparklers aboard trains to ensure passenger safety. This rule is enforced to mitigate risks associated with fire hazards and maintain a secure environment for all travelers.

Consequences of Violating Railway Regulations

Passengers found traveling with prohibited items, such as firecrackers, could face serious repercussions under Section 164 of the Railway Act. Violators may incur a fine of up to Rs 1,000 or face imprisonment for a duration of three years, or both. The Indian Railways consistently advises travelers to refrain from bringing these dangerous items on board, especially during festive seasons when the temptation may be higher to transport firecrackers home.

Prohibited Items and Safety Precautions

In addition to firecrackers, Indian Railways has banned several other items deemed hazardous to passenger safety. These include stoves, gas cylinders, flammable chemicals, acids, and smelly substances, among others. Items that could cause damage or inconvenience, such as leaking oils or items that may create a mess, are also prohibited. While passengers are allowed to carry certain items like ghee (up to 20 kg), it must be properly packed in a tin box to avoid any safety issues during travel.
