Indian Railways has reached a major milestone in its digital transformation journey. According to official data released in March 2026, approximately 88% of all reserved train tickets are now being booked online. This shift is making travel more convenient for millions of passengers by significantly reducing long queues and the overall hassle at railway station counters.
How the RailOne App is changing ticket bookings
The RailOne App has become the primary tool for passengers to manage their train journeys effectively. It integrates multiple services like reserved and unreserved ticketing, platform tickets, and PNR enquiries into a single platform. The following data highlights the performance of the app as of March 2026:
- App Downloads: The RailOne App has recorded over 2.57 crore downloads.
- Daily Bookings: An average of 7.64 lakh tickets are booked daily through the platform.
- Digital Share: Online bookings now account for 88% of total reserved tickets.
- Growth Trend: E-ticketing previously stood at 87% in late 2025 and 89% during the fiscal year 2025-26.
New digital features and future railway updates
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently reviewed plans to further modernize passenger services. New Delhi Railway Station will soon pilot AI-powered surveillance networks and QR code-based access controls to improve security and flow. To assist with travel beyond the station, the RailOne App is being integrated with Bharat Taxi for seamless last-mile connectivity. The railways also announced plans to implement QR code-enabled identity cards for all catering staff and traceable QR codes on food packets to ensure transparency and better food quality for passengers on board.
