What happened during the court hearing?
Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi appeared before Special Judge Vishal Gogne to comply with the court’s earlier order. Although they had pleaded not guilty in a previous session on February 16, their presence was required for ongoing procedures within the window granted by the court. The judge has now fixed February 27 as the date to complete the framing of charges for the remaining accused in this case.
What are the main charges in this case?
The CBI investigation focuses on the period between 2004 and 2009 when Lalu Yadav was the Railway Minister. It is alleged that people were given Group D railway jobs in return for land parcels transferred to the Yadav family at very cheap rates. The CBI claims properties worth about ₹4.39 crore were bought for only ₹26 lakh. The Enforcement Directorate estimates the total proceeds of crime at around ₹600 crore.
What is the next step in the legal process?
The judge has taken a significant step by ordering the trial to begin on March 9, 2026. The court stated that the trial will proceed on a day-to-day basis to ensure no delays. While 52 individuals have been discharged earlier due to lack of evidence, charges remain against 41 people, including key members of the Yadav family. The court observed that public employment was allegedly used as a bargaining chip for personal gains.
