Progress on Rail Doubling Work
The rail doubling work between Rampurhat and Dumka is nearing completion, with significant progress made on the 117 km stretch between Bhagalpur and Dumka. Currently, land acquisition efforts are ongoing, and the feasibility and survey report for the doubling of the Dumka-Bhagalpur railway block have been submitted to the headquarters of Eastern Railway. A survey conducted by the Railways indicates plans for the foundation stone of the new Bhagalpur station, which will be situated on 50-60 acres of railway land between Jagdishpur and Tekani.
Funding and Proposals for Doubling
In the recent general budget, the government allocated a substantial budget for railway infrastructure development, with ₹32,000 crore earmarked for the doubling of railway lines. The Eastern Railway has proposed plans for the Dumka-Bhagalpur railway block doubling, and the feasibility report has already been sent to the headquarters. It is expected that the budget for doubling the Eastern Railway will be finalized within the next fifteen days. The doubling of the track is anticipated to enhance train speeds to 160 km/h, significantly reducing travel time for passengers.
New Stations and Increased Train Operations
Doubling the railway line will lead to increased pressure on train operations, necessitating the introduction of new trains on this route. Intermediate block stations (IBS) will be developed at Gangwara, Kurmahat, Gonudham, and Panjwara, where railway employees will be assigned to manage operations. Currently, 14 trains, including various passenger and express services, operate on the Dumka railway line. The doubling of this track is deemed essential, and further provisions for the project will be determined in the upcoming budget discussions, as the central government continues its efforts to enhance and upgrade railway infrastructure.
