What’s inside:

This article shares details about India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper coach maintenance facility being set up in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

India is getting its very first maintenance facility for Vande Bharat sleeper coaches at Bhagat Ki Kothi railway station in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. This project is a significant step forward for train services in the country.

The facility is being built at a cost of Rs 360 crore and will be completed in two phases. The first phase will cost Rs 167 crore and is set to be ready by June 2026. It will have a maintenance track of 600 meters that can service 24 sleeper coaches at once.

The second phase, which will cost Rs 195 crore, will be ready by June 2027. It will include a 178-meter track, a workshop, and a simulator center to enhance training for staff. This means that the facility will be equipped to handle advanced maintenance tasks.

Once operational, this depot will be able to maintain eight to nine trains daily, ensuring that each train gets timely upkeep after every 3,500 kilometers or four days of service. It will be able to inspect three trains simultaneously, making it quite efficient.

This facility is part of a larger plan that includes four more maintenance depots in cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. The Jodhpur depot will specifically handle only the sleeper versions of Vande Bharat trains, ensuring better service for passengers.

Summary:

  • A new maintenance facility for Vande Bharat sleeper coaches is being built in Jodhpur.

  • The project will cost Rs 360 crore and will be completed in two phases.

  • The first phase will be ready by June 2026, focusing on a 600-meter maintenance track.

  • The facility will maintain eight to nine trains daily, ensuring timely upkeep.

  • This is part of a broader initiative with additional facilities planned in other cities.
