What’s inside:

This article discusses the new Vande Bharat train service in Madurai and the suspension of the Ernakulam–Bengaluru route.

The Indian Railways is launching a new 20-coach Vande Bharat train service on the Mangaluru–Thiruvananthapuram route. This will happen soon, and it means that the existing 16-coach train will now serve the Madurai Division.

Even though the Ernakulam–Bengaluru service had no issues, it has not been reinstated, and there has been little action from local leaders, including Union Ministers from Kerala. They have only submitted requests, without much follow-up.

The new Vande Bharat service will offer significant convenience for travelers on the Mangaluru–Thiruvananthapuram line. Meanwhile, the Madurai Division currently operates services to both Chennai and Bengaluru, with plans to expand further.

Authorities are also considering new train routes and upgrades, including extending services to Palakkad once the necessary infrastructure is ready. This development aims to improve connectivity across the region.

  • The existing train will now serve the Madurai Division.

  • Passengers want the Ernakulam–Bengaluru service to restart.

  • Local leaders have not taken strong action to restore the service.

  • Future expansions and upgrades are planned for regional train services.
