Patliputra Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Runs With Empty Seats, Passengers Prefer Faster Train at 420 Rupees

The Vande Bharat Express running between Patliputra in Patna and Gorakhpur is currently facing a shortage of passengers. Recent reports and data indicate that the train often runs with more than half of its seats empty. The main reason for this lack of interest is that this premium train takes nearly 7 hours to reach the destination, while regular express trains cover the journey in less than 5 hours. Passengers are finding it hard to justify paying a higher fare for a journey that takes more time compared to other available options.

Why Vande Bharat Takes a Longer Route?

The primary reason for the extra travel time is the specific route chosen for this Vande Bharat Express. Unlike the direct trains that travel a shorter distance of about 244 km, this train takes a longer loop of approximately 384 km through North Bihar. It passes through major stops like Hajipur, Muzaffarpur, Bettiah, and Narkatiaganj before reaching Gorakhpur.

Because of this long route, the train has an average speed of around 54 km/h, making it the slowest Vande Bharat service in the country. In comparison, the Patliputra-Lucknow Express (15033) takes a direct path and reaches Gorakhpur in just 4 hours and 55 minutes, saving passengers two hours of travel time.

Huge Fare Difference and Seat Availability

Price is another big factor why passengers are choosing the older express train over the new Vande Bharat. The Chair Car ticket for the Vande Bharat costs around ₹1,245, whereas the same class in the PPTA LJN Express costs only ₹420. For a daily traveler or a common passenger, paying three times the amount for a slower journey does not make sense.

Feature Vande Bharat (26501) PPTA LJN Exp (15033)
Travel Time 7 Hours 4 Hours 55 Mins
Fare (CC) ₹1,245 ₹420
Route Type Long Loop via Bettiah Direct Route
Availability 300+ Seats Open High Demand

Current booking data shows that the Vande Bharat (26501) often has over 300 seats available even on the day of the journey. On the other hand, the cheaper Patliputra-Lucknow Express usually has a waiting list or fills up very quickly. Railway officials monitor these routes, but for now, the price and time gap have made the regular train the clear favorite for the public.
