Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has approved ₹195 crore for expanding the Vande Bharat maintenance depot in Jodhpur. This money will help build a modern workshop and a world-class training center at the depot.
With this new setup, all semi-high-speed trains, including the Vande Bharat sleeper trains, can be maintained right in Jodhpur. This means passengers can enjoy faster and more comfortable journeys.
Anurag Tripathi, the DRM of Jodhpur division, mentioned that work on the depot is ongoing near the Bhagat Ki Kothi washing line, costing ₹167 crore. The second phase will focus on constructing the training center and advanced workshop.
This project will not only allow engineers and staff to receive high-level technical training but also make maintenance operations more efficient. It will be the first depot in the country capable of fully maintaining high-speed and sleeper Vande Bharat trains.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for this depot on February 16, 2024. As this project progresses, Jodhpur aims to become a key center for high-speed rail services, generating many job opportunities in the area.
