This article discusses the Tejas Express, India’s first private train, highlighting its features, routes, and ticket prices.
The Indian Railways has a huge network with many trains running every day. Among them is the Tejas Express, which is India’s first private train, started in 2019 by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
Tejas Express is known for its luxury travel experience, similar to the Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains. It operates on important routes, including the one between New Delhi and Lucknow, and began its first journey on October 4, 2019.
Traveling on the Tejas Express is pricier compared to other services. Even after five years since its launch, it still charges higher fares than Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Vande Bharat Express trains.
The Tejas Express offers two types of seating: AC Chair Car and Executive Chair Car. It is designed for comfort and can run at high speeds, but currently operates at 160 km/h due to track limitations.
For a trip between New Delhi and Lucknow, ticket prices are Rs 1,679 for AC Chair Car and Rs 2,457 for Executive Chair Car. In comparison, Shatabdi and Vande Bharat Express have lower ticket rates for similar seating options.
