What’s inside:

Divisional Railway Manager Divyakant Chandrakar discusses plans for new MEMU trains and ongoing projects in Thiruvananthapuram.

Divyakant Chandrakar has taken over as the Divisional Railway Manager for the Thiruvananthapuram Division. He mentioned that his top priority is to increase the number of coaches for MEMU trains. With work on the Kollam MEMU shed wrapping up in December, 16-coach MEMU trains will soon be available, enhancing railway services in the area.

Chandrakar, who studied Civil Engineering at NIT Raipur, has a solid background in railway projects. He has previously worked on important terminals and railway lines. He emphasized that steps will be taken to address current platform lengths at various stations so they can accommodate longer trains, including the Vande Bharat trains.

Passengers currently facing issues, especially regarding the Nemom terminal project, can expect improvements. The railway is closely monitoring this project, and once the Nagercoil Yard is updated, new services will be launched. There is urgency around completing both the Nagercoil and Nemom projects.

Chandrakar also talked about the need for more train services on routes like Bengaluru and Chennai, given the high fares of private buses. He acknowledged the demands from passengers in Kottayam and surrounding areas for more direct trains to cities like Mumbai and Hyderabad.

Looking ahead, the railway division is committed to modernizing facilities and addressing passenger concerns. The proposed plans include extending existing services and possibly introducing new ones to improve connectivity for commuters.

Summary:

  • New 16-coach MEMU trains are coming after December.

  • Platform lengths will be adjusted for longer train services.

  • Focus on completing the Nemom terminal project quickly.

  • Plans for more trains on popular routes like Bengaluru and Mumbai.

  • Modernization efforts are underway to improve passenger experience.
