The Chandigarh Railway Station is undergoing a massive transformation to become a world-class multimodal transit hub. The project, estimated at ₹462 crore, aims to modernize the station for the Tricity area. While some parts of the station are already open to the public, the full operation is now expected by August 2026.
What are the new facilities at Chandigarh Station?
The station will feature G+3 buildings on both the Chandigarh and Panchkula sides. A 72-meter wide air concourse will connect these buildings, housing retail shops and a food plaza. To make movement easier, the railway is installing 30 lifts and 10 escalators. The station is also being built as a Green Building with a 1,350 kW solar plant for clean energy.
How will the road and parking system change?
The station campus will no longer have coal tar (bitumen) roads. Instead, a concrete network will connect all lanes to ensure durability. New pick-and-drop lanes are being created to manage traffic better. For non-commercial vehicles, a 10-minute free window is provided for pick-up and drop-off before charges apply.
