Indian Railways has significantly enhanced the passenger experience by promoting the RailOne App, a unified digital platform designed to simplify ticket booking and eliminate long queues at railway stations. Launched in July 2025 through a collaboration between Indian Railways, IRCTC, and CRIS, the app has become the mandatory gateway for all unreserved and mobile-based ticketing as of March 1, 2026, effectively replacing the legacy UTS on Mobile application.
Key highlights of the RailOne App include:
- Mandatory platform status: The exclusive app for all unreserved and mobile ticketing needs since March 1, 2026.
- Fare concessions: A 3% discount on unreserved tickets for digital payments extended until March 31, 2027.
- R-Wallet incentives: A 3% cashback offer for R-Wallet users valid until August 24, 2028.
- Simplified booking: Streamlined process for platform tickets via the “Journey Planner” section.
- High adoption: Over 2.57 crore downloads recorded as of March 15, 2026.
A Comprehensive Digital Solution
Beyond platform tickets, the RailOne App serves as an all-in-one ecosystem for rail travelers. It integrates essential services such as reserved ticket booking, real-time live train tracking, integrated food ordering, and a dedicated grievance redressal system. With an impressive average of 7.64 lakh tickets booked daily, the platform has become a cornerstone of the modern Indian Railways digital infrastructure.
How to Book Platform Tickets
To book a platform ticket, users simply need to log in to the app, navigate to the “Journey Planner” section, and select the “Platform Ticket” option. After enabling location access, users can select their station, specify the number of passengers, and complete the transaction using UPI, debit/credit cards, or net banking.
New Mandatory Requirements
Passengers should note that guidelines have become stricter to ensure seamless travel. As of July 15, 2026, a valid photo ID is mandatory for all unreserved tickets. Furthermore, passengers must present their tickets directly through the RailOne interface, as screenshots or forwarded images are no longer accepted as valid proof of travel. By consolidating these services, Indian Railways continues its mission to provide a paperless, efficient, and user-friendly experience for millions of daily commuters.
