Plans are officially in motion to construct a new railway line running alongside the Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal (KGP) Expressway. This strategic infrastructure project has been formally incorporated into the National Capital Region (NCR) Planning Board’s Regional Plan-2041, marking a significant step toward improving transit efficiency in the National Capital Region.
Key highlights of the project include:
• The Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (HRIDC) has begun drafting the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
• A feasibility report for the Eastern Orbital Rail Corridor has been submitted to the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh.
• The project aligns with the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti National Master Plan objectives.
• The new line is set to improve passenger and freight movement across Faridabad, Palwal, Noida, and Haryana districts.
Aligning with National Infrastructure Goals
This development is part of a larger national push under the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti National Master Plan. According to official data, the government has approved 300 railway projects covering 13,808 kilometers to be completed by March 2026. This massive infrastructure drive includes 51 new lines, 17 gauge conversions, and 232 doubling projects, all aimed at decongesting existing networks and providing seamless connectivity across industrial hubs.
Progress on Orbital Rail Corridors
While the KGP-aligned line moves through the planning phase, work is simultaneously progressing on the 122-kilometer Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor. This major project, which consists of a broad-gauge double-track line running parallel to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway from Palwal to Sonipat, is a critical component of the region’s rail expansion.
With an estimated cost of ₹11,500 crore, the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor is currently on track for a scheduled completion by December 2029. Together, these projects represent a massive investment in the rail infrastructure of North India, promising to reduce travel time and enhance the logistics capability for businesses operating within the NCR. As the HRIDC continues to finalize the DPR for the KGP-aligned route, commuters and industry stakeholders can expect significant improvements in regional rail accessibility in the coming years.
