The long-standing dream of rail connectivity for the Sidhi district in Madhya Pradesh is finally becoming a reality. On August 19, 2026, the West Central Railway successfully conducted a high-speed engine trial between Rampur Naikin and Churhat. This critical 22.90-kilometer stretch, managed by the Jabalpur division, marks the end of a 44-year wait for the residents of this region.
Key highlights of the recent development:
• A CRS special train successfully completed a speed trial at 115 kmph.
• The 22.90-kilometer segment is officially declared safe for future operations.
• Passenger train services are expected to reach Sidhi district headquarters within 2 to 2.5 months.
• The project includes the state’s longest and widest railway tunnel, stretching 3.33 kilometers in the Chhuhiya valley.
• Rail services between Rewa and Sidhi are targeted to commence by December 2026 or January 2027.
A Milestone for Infrastructure
Railway official Gopal Singh Jodha confirmed the success of the trial, noting that the tracks have passed all safety parameters. With 100% of land acquisition now complete and construction on the Sidhi railway station in its final stages, the project is moving rapidly toward full operational status. Local representatives, including Sidhi MP Dr. Rajesh Mishra, have hailed this as a historic achievement for the region, which has been waiting for rail access for over four decades.
Boosting Regional Growth
Beyond just connectivity, the Lalitpur-Singrauli rail line is set to become a lifeline for the local economy. State officials, including Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, have emphasized the project’s importance for the development of the education, healthcare, trade, and industrial sectors. The infrastructure is not only expected to improve regional mobility but also to create significant employment opportunities for the local population.
Looking at the broader timeline, the government is committed to the completion of the entire rail line by 2028. As construction progresses, the upcoming connection between Rewa and Sidhi will serve as a critical milestone, effectively integrating this historically isolated district into the national railway network.
