A chaotic situation unfolded in Bhagalpur on Saturday morning when an uncontrolled e-rickshaw crashed into a railway crossing gate. The incident occurred around 9:00 AM near Muslim High School, severely damaging the barrier and shutting down the automatic signaling system. This unexpected crash led to significant delays for trains on the Bhagalpur-Jamalpur section and caused massive road traffic jams on both sides of the crossing.

Which Trains Were Affected by the Accident?
The disruption lasted for nearly four hours, affecting thousands of passengers traveling through the Malda Division. Due to the damaged interlocking system, signals could not function automatically. Railway officials had to switch to manual operations to keep things moving slowly. The following trains faced issues:
- Vikramshila Express (12367): This train was delayed and had to be operated using manual signaling.
- Garib Rath Express (22405): This service was heavily affected and required manual pilotage through the section.
During this period, trains were run on “Caution Orders,” meaning they had to stop before the gate and proceed at a very slow speed of 10-15 km/h only after getting physical hand signals from the gatekeeper and RPF personnel.
What Action Has Been Taken Against the Driver?
RPF Inspector Amit Kumar Giri confirmed that strict legal action has been initiated. The e-rickshaw driver ignored the warning siren and attempted to cross the tracks while the gate was closing, leading to the collision. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrived at the scene, seized the vehicle, and arrested the driver. A case has been registered under the Railways Act, 1989 for endangering safety and damaging public property. Technical teams began repair work at 1:30 PM to restore normal services.
