Northern Railway will start a direct Vande Bharat Express service between Jammu and Srinagar on April 30, 2026. This announcement was made by railway officials on April 22, 2026. The train will make travel faster and more comfortable for passengers traveling between these two cities.

Who will flag off the train and what are the details
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh will flag off the train at Jammu railway station. Lok Sabha member Jugal Kishore Sharma is also expected to attend the event. The railway department will announce the exact timings for the service soon.
What changes are being made to the current service
The Vande Bharat trains that currently run between Katra and Srinagar will be extended to Jammu to provide direct connectivity. To handle more passengers, the current 8-car rake is likely to be replaced with a 20-car rake. All trial runs and security checks for the route are already complete.
