Railway Development Funding in Madhya Pradesh
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced an allocation of Rs 14,700 crore for the development of railway infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh. This announcement was made during a virtual event marking the flag-off of a new train service from Jaura to Kailaras in the Morena district. The newly inaugurated route has undergone conversion from narrow gauge to broad gauge, enhancing the capacity and efficiency of train services in the region. The event was also attended by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Narendra Tomar, who jointly flagged off the train service at Jaura station.
Gauge Conversion and Infrastructure Improvements
Minister Vaishnav highlighted the ongoing railway developments in Madhya Pradesh, noting that there are currently five Vande Bharat trains operating in the state. Over the past decade, significant progress has been made, including the completion of 222 km of new railway lines, 1200 km of multi-tracking, and 707 km of gauge conversion work. A specific project mentioned involves the conversion of the 188 km narrow gauge track between Gwalior and Sheopur Kalan to broad gauge, with an investment of Rs 2355 crore. The gauge conversion work for the 61-kilometer route between Jaura and Kailaras is expected to be completed by July 2025.
Socio-Economic Impact and Technological Advancements
The Railway Minister emphasized that the gauge conversion project will significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of Morena by accelerating industrial growth, generating employment opportunities, and reducing transportation costs and travel times. To further enhance connectivity and project management, the use of drones and GPS trackers has been introduced. Additionally, plans for the redevelopment of Gwalior and Khajuraho railway stations are in progress, aiming to improve passenger services and overall infrastructure in the state.
