Under the South East Central Railway (SECR) zone, the High Horse Power (HHP) Diesel Shed in Raipur is undergoing a significant transformation. Approved in mid-July 2026 with an outlay of ₹175 crore, this facility is being expanded to provide homing capacity for 250 three-phase electric locomotives. As Raipur serves as a critical hub for the movement of coal, steel, and cement, this upgrade is vital for optimizing asset utilization and supporting the growing fleet of locomotives required for the region’s industrial output.
In addition to maintenance upgrades, the Champa-Korba Third Line Project is set to be a game-changer for logistics. Covering a 42-km stretch, this ₹755 crore initiative is a key pillar of the national ‘Mission 3000 MT’ and the High-Density Network Corridor. By linking coalfields managed by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) directly to the high-density Mumbai–Howrah Corridor, the project aims to drastically reduce freight train detention. Officials estimate that this line will generate annual operational savings of ₹1.30 crore.
