Railway authorities have officially commenced the critical track linking project at Forbesganj, a move set to bridge the operational gap between the East Central Railway (ECR) and the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). This initiative focuses on connecting a vital 10 to 15-meter stretch of track located near Railway Crossing No. 65 at Subhash Chowk. To facilitate this infrastructure upgrade, Railway Crossing No. 65 will remain fully closed to traffic from 10 PM on July 21 to 6 AM on July 22, coinciding with the main linking operation.
- Strategic Connection: The project links the ECR and NFR networks to allow simultaneous train arrivals at Forbesganj station.
- Traffic Relief: The consolidation of operations will eliminate the need for dual closures at the crossing, significantly reducing congestion.
- Operational Efficiency: ECR trains from Saharsa will no longer need to rely solely on the Katihar-Jogbani section to reach Forbesganj.
- Security Measures: The Senior Sectional Engineer has coordinated with the RPF, GRP, and local police to ensure safety during the construction window.
Improving Regional Connectivity
For years, trains originating from the ECR side, specifically from Saharsa, faced operational hurdles as they were required to navigate the NFR’s Katihar-Jogbani rail section to reach Forbesganj. This integration is a major step toward streamlining regional rail traffic. By unifying the track layout, the railway board aims to improve punctuality and increase the frequency of services passing through this junction.
High-Level Oversight and Future Projects
The urgency of this project is underscored by the direct involvement of railway leadership. Katihar Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Kirendra Narah is scheduled to conduct a detailed inspection of the Jogbani area on July 19, accompanied by the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and other senior officials. This visit is expected to review not only the track linking progress but also the status of other infrastructure developments in the pipeline. Local representative and Member of Parliament Pradeep Kumar Singh has been actively pushing for the expedited completion of these pending works, with a particular focus on the development of the Jogbani Washing Pit. These efforts reflect a broader commitment to modernizing the rail infrastructure in the region to better serve passengers and boost local logistics.
