Indian Railways has significantly improved the passenger experience with the launch of the RailOne mobile application, a unified digital platform designed to eliminate the need for long queues at station counters. Launched in July 2025, the app now serves as the primary gateway for railway services, having officially replaced the legacy UTS-on-Mobile app on March 1, 2026. All services, including platform ticket bookings, have been seamlessly migrated to this comprehensive digital ecosystem.
Key features and updates for passengers include:
- Consolidated Services: RailOne handles reserved tickets, unreserved tickets, train tracking, and food ordering in one place.
- Strict ID Requirements: As of July 15, 2026, passengers must provide a valid photo ID during booking and carry the original document while traveling.
- Digital Ticket Validity: Only the live, in-app digital ticket is valid; screenshots or forwarded images are not accepted.
- Platform Ticket Rules: Tickets are valid for two hours, with a maximum of four tickets allowed per transaction.
New Booking Protocols and Verification
To ensure security and streamline inspections, Indian Railways has implemented strict verification protocols. When booking unreserved tickets via RailOne, users are required to link a valid photo identity document, such as an Aadhaar card or Voter ID. During travel, Ticket Examiners (TTEs) are fully authorized to verify both the digital ticket and the passenger’s original identity proof. It is important to note that the app must be accessed on the registered mobile device to present the live ticket, as screenshots, photographs, or forwarded images are explicitly deemed invalid by railway authorities.
Operational Efficiency and Incentives
The RailOne app was developed through a collaborative effort between Indian Railways, IRCTC, and CRIS to provide a seamless user experience. To encourage the shift toward digital transactions, the department introduced a 3% discount on unreserved tickets for those using digital payment methods between January 14, 2026, and July 14, 2026. While this promotional window has officially concluded, there are ongoing reports suggesting a potential extension of this incentive, which would further benefit frequent travelers moving toward a paperless journey. By centralizing these essential services, Indian Railways continues to reduce station congestion and offer a faster, more reliable way for passengers to manage their travel needs.
