The East Central Railway’s Samastipur Division is set to witness a major boost in operational efficiency with two key infrastructure projects nearing completion. During a recent Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Jyoti Prakash Mishra announced the setup of a new rack point at Semra and the upcoming operational status of the long-awaited Jhivdhara washing pit in Motihari. These developments are aimed at streamlining train maintenance and enhancing freight logistics across the division.
Key updates from the announcement include:
• A new rack point is being established at Semra to improve divisional logistics.
• The Jhivdhara washing pit near Motihari is expected to become operational within one month.
• The washing pit project is valued at an estimated **49 crore rupees**.
• The facility will initially feature **three rail lines** for maintenance, with one line launching immediately.
Strategic Benefits for Motihari
The completion of the Jhivdhara washing pit marks a significant milestone for the region. Previously, trains originating from Motihari had to be sent to distant hubs like Muzaffarpur or Sonepur for routine maintenance and cleaning. By localizing these services, the division will not only save time but also create the necessary infrastructure to support an increase in the number of long-distance trains originating from Motihari station.
While construction faced shifting timelines—with earlier estimates targeting September 2025 and January 2026—the project is now in its final stages. As of **December 2025**, the primary construction for the pit was largely finished, with only the finalization of crucial rail line points remaining.
Focus on Infrastructure Growth
DRM Jyoti Prakash Mishra, who took charge in **August 2025**, has placed a strong emphasis on modernizing the division’s capabilities. His tenure has been marked by a focus on passenger convenience, safety, and infrastructure expansion. The introduction of the Semra rack point is expected to further assist in efficient freight handling, ensuring that local industry needs are met with improved rail connectivity. Passengers and stakeholders can expect these facilities to be fully functional within the next few weeks, marking a positive step forward for railway operations in the Samastipur division.
