The transformation of Sidirsai railway station is officially underway following a successful bhoomi pujan ceremony held on Saturday, July 18, 2026. This infrastructure project, aimed at modernizing rail facilities in the Potka block, is set to significantly improve connectivity for the local region. Key highlights of the project include:
• An estimated project cost of 5 crore rupees.
• Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2026, immediately following the monsoon season.
• The new facility is expected to be completed within one year, by mid-2027.
• Infrastructure upgrades include five rail lines, dedicated ticket counters, and modern waiting rooms.
• The development plan features a direct link to the main road, benefiting residents of over 50 surrounding villages.
The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Member of Parliament Bidyut Baran Mahato alongside Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Tarun Huria of the Chakradharpur Rail Division. MP Mahato emphasized that this project is a strategic investment in regional infrastructure, designed to provide seamless travel options for local commuters.
Strategic Inspections and Future Connectivity
Following the ceremony, the officials conducted an inspection of the Tatanagar Railway Station and the Makdumpur railway gate in Parsudih to assess ongoing operational requirements. During these discussions, MP Mahato shared encouraging updates regarding the Tatanagar-Varanasi Vande Bharat Express, noting that positive dialogues are currently taking place at the Railway Ministry level to finalize its operation.
Community Expectations
While the local community has warmly welcomed the redevelopment of Sidirsai, there is a strong emphasis on ensuring the station remains functional for the public. Residents have expressed their hope that the facility will see regular passenger train stoppages once completed. Their concerns stem from the experience at Salgazhari station, which underwent development but subsequently saw limited utility, primarily serving as an operating cabin rather than a passenger-servicing hub. By prioritizing both infrastructure and operational planning, the Chakradharpur Division aims to ensure that Sidirsai becomes a vital transit point for the region.
