Somesar Railway Station in Pali, Rajasthan, has officially entered a new era of rail travel following a comprehensive redevelopment project. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the upgraded facility on Friday, July 17, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the Indian Railways’ Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The project, which saw completion on July 16, 2026, was part of a larger initiative to modernize eight stations across Rajasthan, aiming to provide world-class amenities to passengers while boosting regional connectivity.
- Project Cost: ₹12.41 crore investment by North Western Railway.

- Accessibility: Equipped with tactile tiles, ramps, and two new passenger lifts for Divyangjan.
- Amenities: Expanded waiting areas, new platform shelters, and high-tech LED lighting.
- Aesthetics: Integration of local Rajasthani art and murals.
Enhanced Infrastructure and Passenger Comfort
The modernization project, executed by the Ajmer Division of the North Western Railway (NWR), focuses on creating a seamless travel experience. The station’s circulating area has been significantly expanded to 2660 square meters, featuring improved landscaping and dedicated zones for vehicle drop-off and pick-up. To ensure passenger comfort, the station now boasts an upgraded 380-square-meter waiting area and 8950 square meters of resurfaced platforms, protected by a new 765-square-meter platform shelter.
During the inauguration, dignitaries including Cabinet Minister Joraram Kumawat and MP P.P. Chaudhary highlighted how these upgrades align with the vision of a ‘Developed Rajasthan.’ The station has been transformed not just structurally, but also functionally, with the addition of air-conditioned waiting rooms and a high-efficiency 12-foot HVLS fan to maintain pleasant temperatures.
Technology and Safety Upgrades
Safety and navigation have been prioritized through modern technological interventions. Passengers can now rely on 57 new signage boards, digital display systems, and upgraded announcement services for real-time updates. The station’s security infrastructure has been fortified with a 350-meter boundary wall and the installation of specialized cattle guards to prevent track intrusions.
Aesthetically, the station serves as a tribute to Rajasthan’s heritage, featuring murals and artwork that reflect local culture. With comprehensive LED lighting—including facade illumination and four high-mast towers—the station remains well-lit and safe for nocturnal travelers. By prioritizing Divyangjan-friendly features like tactile pathways and specialized toilets, the Indian Railways continues to ensure that modern rail infrastructure remains inclusive and accessible for all citizens.
