What happens if you miss your train with a General or Reserved ticket?
The rules differ based on the type of ticket you hold. If you have a General ticket, it is usually valid for 3 hours from the time of purchase or until the first available train of that category departs. You can use a valid general ticket to travel on another train of the same class. However, general tickets are not valid in premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, or Vande Bharat.
For reserved tickets, you cannot use the same ticket to travel on another train. If you do, you will be treated as traveling without a ticket and may face a fine. One helpful rule is the Two Station Rule, where a TTE cannot allot your confirmed seat to someone else until the train has passed the next two stations from your boarding point.
What are the refund and cancellation rules for missed trains?
Confirmed or RAC tickets that are missed are generally treated as No-Show, and no automatic refund is given. To claim a refund in special cases, filing a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) is mandatory. For example, if a train is delayed by more than 3 hours and the passenger does not travel, a full refund is possible via TDR.

What are the upcoming changes in Railway policies?
Indian Railways is introducing several updates. From April 2026, the cancellation policy will become stricter.
