A professor, Alok Kumar Singh, aged 33, from NM College, was fatally stabbed with a knife while getting off the train at Malad railway station. He was originally from Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred on a Saturday evening as he was returning home from college.
Alok Kumar Singh was the son of commando Anil Kumar Singh, who was in charge of the security of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. The attacker has been identified as Omkar Eknath Shinde.
The altercation between Alok and Omkar started near the gate as they both wanted to get off the train first. Due to a dispute over some women standing ahead, Alok asked Omkar to wait, which led to a heated argument. Omkar attacked Alok with a sharp weapon as he was getting off the train, then took advantage of the crowd and escaped.
Alok was rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries due to excessive bleeding. The police have arrested the suspect, Omkar Eknath Shinde, within 12 hours of the incident.
Omkar Shinde, a 27-year-old metal polish worker, is currently being investigated for the sudden act of violence. The police have filed charges against him under the Indian Penal Code related to murder. Further investigation is ongoing.
