In a recent press release, former Bharatiya Janata Party MP and state president Shwet Malik expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, and current Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnav. He mentioned that he had advocated for the establishment of an Amritsar-Jammu Bullet Train in Parliament back in 2017, which led to the project’s approval in 2018. The tender for the project was floated in 2020, and construction is now set to commence, marking a significant milestone for the high-speed rail initiative connecting Delhi-Amritsar and Katra.

Amritsar-Delhi Bullet Train Details

Shwet Malik detailed the benefits of the Amritsar-Delhi Bullet Rail Project, which will reduce the travel time for the 465-kilometer journey from Amritsar to Delhi to just 1 hour and 40 minutes. This significant reduction in travel time enables commuters to complete their work in Delhi and return to Amritsar on the same day. The train will serve multiple stops, including Kaithal, Jind, Ambala, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar, with a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour and an operational speed of 320 kilometers per hour, maintaining an average speed of 250 kilometers per hour. The train will accommodate up to 750 passengers.

High-Speed Train to Katra and Station Improvements

In addition to the Amritsar-Delhi route, a high-speed train connecting Amritsar to Katra, the holy city in Jammu, is also set to commence. This 190-kilometer journey will take approximately 1 hour, with stops in Batala, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Samba, and Jammu. The maximum speed for this train will be 320 kilometers per hour, with an average speed of 200 kilometers per hour. Furthermore, Shwet Malik announced a significant renovation of the Amritsar Railway Station, which has received an investment of Rs 500 crore for various upgrades, including new platforms, lifts, air-conditioned waiting areas, and other passenger amenities. Additional funding of Rs 300 crore from NITI Aayog has been allocated for the Amritsar-Firozepur rail link, further enhancing the region’s rail infrastructure.
