Infrastructure Development in Indian Railways

Indian Railways is making significant strides in enhancing its railway infrastructure to accommodate an increasing number of trains and ensure timely services. Currently, the construction of a third railway line from Chhapra to Barabanki is underway. In addition, a survey for the establishment of a fourth railway line from Lucknow to Gorakhpur has commenced following official approval. The introduction of this new line is expected to improve travel convenience to Purvanchal and Bihar, leading to increased train speed and frequency.

Survey and Construction Initiatives

The Railway Board has sanctioned the survey for the fourth line connecting Gorakhpur to Lucknow, with initial assessments focusing on a 61 km stretch from Gonda to Burhwal. Pankaj Kumar Singh, the Chief Public Relations Officer of North Eastern Railway, noted that the complete report from the survey will soon be submitted to the construction department for further action. The preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will follow, paving the way for financial approvals and eventual commencement of construction work. This initiative marks the first segment of North Eastern Railway where a survey for an additional line has been initiated.

Impact on Train Operations

Currently, the rail network is operating one and a half times its capacity, resulting in frequent delays and the inability to introduce new trains. The completion of the new line will alleviate these issues by allowing for an increased number of trains and enhanced speeds. Furthermore, the introduction of the fourth line will enable passenger trains operating on the Lucknow to Gorakhpur and Bihar routes to bypass unnecessary stops at Outer, Domingarh, Nakaha, and Cantt stations, thus streamlining operations. In conjunction with these developments, the ongoing work on the third line from Chhapra to Barabanki is progressing rapidly, including trials on specific segments of the track.
