Protests Erupt Outside DRM Office in Bilaspur Following Contract Worker’s Death from OHE Electrocution Incident

A contract worker named Pratap Barman died from electrocution while working at the Bilaspur railway coaching depot on August 23. His family has been protesting outside the DRM office for the past six days, demanding compensation and a job for his wife.

Pratap was cleaning the AC unit of an extra Vande Bharat coach when he was electrocuted by the overhead equipment (OHE) wires. After the accident, he was taken to Apollo Hospital, but unfortunately, he passed away a few days later.


The family is insisting on a compensation of 1 crore rupees and a job for Pratap’s wife, along with educational expenses for their child. They have been steadfast in their demands, leading to a continuous protest outside the DRM office.

Pratap’s body has been in the mortuary for four days, raising concerns about its condition. Medical experts say that the body may deteriorate quickly due to the circumstances surrounding Pratap’s death.


Today, the High Court will hear a public interest petition regarding this case. The Chief Justice has taken a serious view of the railway administration’s handling of the situation and has asked for a response from the General Manager within three days.
