Lost Luggage on Trains: RPF's Operation Amanat Helps Recover Valuable Items for Passengers in India.

Lost Luggage Recovery by RPF

Many passengers often forget their luggage while traveling on trains, and this oversight frequently includes valuable items. Unfortunately, many travelers assume that any luggage left behind in a moving train or at a station is unlikely to be recovered, leading them to refrain from seeking help. However, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) actively works to recover and return lost luggage to its rightful owners. In the previous year alone, RPF successfully returned goods valued at Rs 6.6 crores to passengers.

Operation ‘Amanat’

To facilitate the recovery of lost belongings, RPF has initiated Operation ‘Amanat’. This operation is designed to locate and return items left behind by passengers, whether on the train or at the station. In 2024, RPF reported that goods worth over Rs 6.67 crore were successfully returned to approximately 2,200 rightful owners. This initiative highlights the RPF’s commitment to ensuring that valuable items do not remain lost forever and reassures passengers that they can recover forgotten luggage.

Steps to Retrieve Lost Items

If passengers realize that they have left luggage behind in a train or at a station, they are advised to contact the RPF immediately to report the lost items. By providing specific information regarding the luggage, passengers can facilitate its retrieval under Operation ‘Amanat’. Once RPF recovers the lost item, passengers will need to complete the necessary formalities to reclaim their belongings.
