Jodhpur City Railway Station is undergoing a significant transformation aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and passenger comfort. As part of a major infrastructure upgrade, the North-Western Railway (NWR) is currently working on the construction of platforms 6 and 7, a project with a sanctioned budget of ₹40.10 crore. This expansion is a vital component of the station’s broader modernization effort, which seeks to upgrade the facility to provide world-class, airport-like amenities for travelers.
Key highlights of the Jodhpur station upgrade include:
• Construction of two additional platforms (6 and 7) to increase station capacity.
• An estimated total project cost ranging between ₹474 crore and ₹500 crore.
• Integration of a new five-story building, departure lounges, and multi-level car parking.
• Installation of modern passenger facilities, including lifts and escalators.
A Modern Transit Hub in the Making
The comprehensive redevelopment project, which kicked off in early 2023, is designed to overhaul the existing infrastructure of Jodhpur station. Previously, the station functioned with five platforms and seven lines. By adding new platforms, the NWR aims to reduce congestion and improve the handling of train traffic, ensuring smoother arrivals and departures for passengers. The proposed infrastructure includes spacious waiting areas and modern amenities that align with the vision of revitalizing heritage stations into modern transit hubs.
Project Timeline and Current Status
While the project was initially slated for completion by mid-2026, progress has faced several challenges. Reports as of May 2026 indicate that while work on platform six is actively moving forward, the development of platform seven faces potential hurdles due to space constraints at the site. Furthermore, the overall project timeline has been impacted by manpower shortages, leading to an anticipated delay of approximately 1.5 to 2 years beyond the original deadline.
Despite these logistical setbacks, the North-Western Railway remains committed to completing the overhaul. Once finished, these improvements are expected to significantly enhance the travel experience for thousands of daily commuters passing through this vital Rajasthan rail hub.
