Indian Railways has officially extended the operational period of numerous special trains through mid-2026, with some key services running as late as September. This strategic move is designed to address the persistent surge in passenger traffic across high-demand corridors, particularly those connecting major hubs like Surat, Pune, and Delhi. By prolonging these services, the national transporter aims to provide consistent travel options during peak periods, including the Sawan season and post-holiday travel rushes.
Key highlights of the extended services include:
- Pune-Danapur Special (01449/01450) extended until September 28/30, 2026.
- Barauni-New Delhi Clone Special (02563/02564) extended until July 31/August 1, 2026.
- Darbhanga-New Delhi Clone Special (02569/02570) extended until July 31/August 1, 2026.
- Danapur-Anand Vihar Special (03257/03258) extended until July 26/27, 2026.
- Prayagraj-Hazrat Nizamuddin Special (04123/04124) services extended through July 2026.
- 18 special trains passing through the Kota division confirmed to run until September 2026.
Strategic Relief for Passengers
Multiple railway zones, including the North Central, North, East Central, and South Central Railways, are coordinating these extensions. According to Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer for North Railway, the decision was made to ensure passenger convenience amidst the overwhelming demand on busy routes. Supporting this, Saraswati Chandra, CPRO of East Central Railway, confirmed that 11 pairs of special trains managed by their zone are included in this extension cycle.
In addition to the specific routes mentioned above, the railways have also extended services on other vital routes. These include connections between Sheikhpura-Anand Vihar, Muzaffarpur-Anand Vihar, Purnia Court-Anand Vihar, Saharsa-Anand Vihar, Udhna-Madhubani, and Udhna-Jhanjharpur.
This proactive scheduling is expected to alleviate pressure on the regular train network and provide a more reliable transit experience for commuters traveling between major industrial and residential hubs. Passengers are encouraged to check the updated schedules on the official IRCTC website or the NTES app before planning their journeys, as these extensions provide long-term booking availability for those traveling in the coming months.
