The Sonpur Railway Division of the East Central Railway has taken a significant step toward improving passenger convenience while simultaneously strengthening its financial health. By successfully completing a series of e-tenders, the division is set to introduce new catering facilities and utility services across several stations under its jurisdiction. This strategic move highlights the division’s commitment to modernizing station infrastructure and increasing non-fare revenue through transparent, digital processes.
- Eight new catering stalls to be opened at various stations.
- Projected additional revenue of ₹5.71 lakh from catering contracts.
- Water vending machines installed at four key stations to improve hydration access.
- ₹6.93 lakh generated through advertisement boards at 87 stations.
Expanding Catering and Passenger Amenities
On July 17, 2026, the Sonpur Railway Division concluded an e-tendering process for eight new catering stalls. These stalls will be established at Akshaywat Rai Nagar, Nayagaon, Mahnar Road, Chakmakrand, Parukhas, Pasraha, Narayanpur, and Kurhani stations. This initiative is designed to ensure that passengers have easy access to quality refreshments while traveling through these routes. The division expects this project to contribute ₹5.71 lakh to its annual revenue.
Strategic Growth in Non-Fare Revenue
The division’s focus on optimizing assets extends beyond catering. On July 7, 2026, the railway successfully allocated contracts for water vending machines at Sonpur, Akshaywat Rai Nagar, Goldinganj, and New Barauni stations. These machines are expected to generate ₹3.49 lakh over a five-year period, ensuring that travelers have reliable access to clean drinking water.
Furthermore, the division conducted an e-auction on June 30, 2026, for the installation of time table-cum-advertisement boards across 87 stations. This initiative alone secured ₹6.93 lakh in non-fare income over three years. These efforts are part of a broader strategy led by Divisional Railway Manager Amit Saran and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Dheeraj Kumar to promote transparency and efficiency. By leveraging e-tendering, the Sonpur Division is effectively balancing the need for improved passenger amenities with the objective of sustainable financial growth.
