Part of a National Vision
Launched by the Ministry of Railways in December 2022, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a massive undertaking that targets the phased redevelopment of over 1,338 railway stations across India. The program focuses on creating multimodal connectivity, improving accessibility, and integrating railway stations seamlessly with urban transport networks.
While the work at Degana is currently in progress, the broader scheme has already achieved significant milestones. On July 17, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated 75 redeveloped stations across 20 states. This event included 8 stations within Rajasthan, such as the nearby Gotan Railway Station. While the state government, led by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, has emphasized a significant increase in the rail budget for Rajasthan, there have been no specific inauguration details or completion updates released for the Degana project as of July 22, 2026. Once completed, this redevelopment is expected to significantly elevate the passenger experience and modernize the rail connectivity for the people of Nagaur.
