The North Central Railway (NCR) has officially launched a pilot project to equip Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) with body-worn cameras across key express trains in the Prayagraj Division. This initiative, which focuses on bringing greater transparency to ticket checking and bolstering overall passenger safety, commenced operations on the night of Friday, July 25, 2026, building upon an initial rollout that took place between July 22 and 23, 2026.
Key details of the new initiative include:
- Initial deployment on Prayagraj Express (12417/12418) and Shram Shakti Express (12451/12452).
- Procurement of 30 high-definition body-worn cameras for staff use.
- Implementation of HD video, audio recording, and night vision technology.
- Tamper-proof recording systems to ensure data integrity and evidence collection.
Focus on Transparency and Accountability
Dr. Shivam Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of North Central Railway, confirmed that the cameras are designed to capture all interactions during ticket checks. By recording both audio and video, the railway aims to minimize disputes and ensure a professional standard of conduct. Amit Kumar Singh, PRO of the Prayagraj Division, emphasized that the footage will act as impartial digital evidence, providing a reliable way to address passenger grievances and curb the filing of false complaints against railway staff.
Advanced Features and Future Expansion
The cameras are compact and designed to be worn directly on the TTEs’ uniforms. Beyond standard video, they feature long battery backup to sustain the staff through extended journeys and specialized night vision capabilities to ensure clear footage even in low-light conditions. The project is currently under the close supervision of Naresh Pal Singh, General Manager of NCR, with comprehensive training programs for the field staff already in progress.
As the Prayagraj Division monitors the success of this pilot, the railway administration has indicated that this modern approach to ticket checking is likely to be expanded. If the initial phase proves effective in improving the travel experience and operational efficiency, the use of body cameras will be rolled out to more trains and across other divisions within the North Central Railway network in a phased manner.
