Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur and Madhya Pradesh Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya visited the under-construction Tanda Road Railway Station in the Dhar district on Saturday, July 25, 2026. This high-level inspection marks a major push for the Indore-Chhota Udaipur rail project, which aims to provide vital connectivity to the tribal regions of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
Key highlights of the project development include:
- Tanda Road station is fully prepared with all track laying and electrification works completed.
- The 25 KV overhead electric line was commissioned following a public notice issued on July 18, 2026.
- Passenger train trials between Tanda Road and Chhota Udaipur are expected to begin in August 2026.
- The project will provide the first direct rail link for the tribal regions of Dhar district to Gujarat.
Progress and Future Connectivity
During the visit, senior railway officials provided a detailed briefing to the ministers regarding the project’s current status. The Tanda Road station stands as a key milestone in this infrastructure initiative. Having completed the necessary electrification, the station is now technically ready for operational trials, moving the project closer to serving the public.
This rail line is a transformative project for the region. While the 72-kilometer section connecting Chhota Udaipur to Alirajpur has been operational since 2019, the focus has now shifted to the rapid development of the Alirajpur-Dhar section. Railway authorities have set a target completion date of 2027 for this critical stretch. Once fully operational, this rail link is expected to significantly boost regional trade, tourism, and accessibility for the residents of these previously underserved tribal areas, bridging the gap between the states of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
