Central Railway has officially ventured into the automobile freight transport market by launching new services from the Bhigwan and Bhusaval goods sheds. This strategic move, announced on July 25, 2026, is aimed at boosting the national transporter’s freight revenue and strengthening logistics connectivity across the country. The initiative marks a significant step in diversifying the railway’s freight basket while providing efficient transport solutions for the automotive industry.
Key highlights of the new service expansion:
• The first rake from Bhigwan departed on July 19, 2026, carrying 100 vehicles to Rangiya, Assam.
• The Bhusaval inaugural rake moved 100 vehicles to Nidvanda, Karnataka, on July 24, 2026.
• The Bhigwan consignment generated Rs 21 lakh, while the Bhusaval operation earned Rs 14.82 lakh in freight revenue.
• Officials have already received 26 additional automobile loading requests from Bhigwan.
Expanding Logistics Reach
The maiden consignment from Bhigwan was facilitated by 25 New Modified Goods (NMG) wagons, operated by B.R. Transcon Limited. Following this success, the Bhusaval Division handled its first major shipment for Mahindra Logistics. These operations are part of a broader push by Indian Railways to increase its share in the automobile logistics market through customer-centric infrastructure improvements.
Future Projections and Growth
Looking ahead, Central Railway is eyeing further expansion with potential new routes to Fatuha in Bihar and Raipur in Chhattisgarh. Each rake originating from the Bhigwan facility is estimated to generate between Rs 16 lakh and Rs 22 lakh in revenue, providing a substantial boost to the division’s financial performance.
Furthermore, this initiative is strategically timed as part of the preparations for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik. By optimizing freight operations now, the railway aims to build a robust framework that can handle increased traffic and logistical demands in the coming years. The Solapur Division, in particular, has been lauded for its efforts to diversify its freight offerings and enhance convenience for logistics partners, setting a strong precedent for future railway freight operations.
