Starting August 1, 2026, the West Central Railway (WCR) zone is set to introduce a revamped token system for Tatkal ticket bookings at physical reservation counters. This strategic shift is designed to eliminate long queues, prevent overcrowding, and streamline the ticketing process for passengers. By synchronizing token distribution with official Tatkal booking windows, the railway aims to provide a more organized service while curbing unauthorized ticketing practices.
Key updates for passengers include:
- New token distribution timings for AC and Non-AC Tatkal bookings.
- Introduction of Category A and Category B priority systems.
- Strict requirements for photo ID and proof of relation for immediate family.
- Limited token issuance per counter with flexibility based on local demand.
Revised Token Distribution Schedule
According to Saurabh Jain, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr DCM) of the Kota Division, the new timing structure is designed to save passengers from multiple trips to the reservation center. For AC Tatkal tickets, tokens will now be issued between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM. For Non-AC (Sleeper) Tatkal tickets, the distribution window is set for 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM. These timings shift the process earlier to align directly with the opening of the Tatkal booking slots.
Priority Booking and Eligibility
To ensure fairness, the WCR has categorized passengers. Category A is reserved for passengers booking tickets for themselves or immediate family members; these individuals must provide valid proof of relation. Category B includes all other passengers, who will be served after Category A requests are addressed.
Each reservation counter is initially set to issue 10 tokens for AC Tatkal and 15 tokens for Non-AC (Sleeper) Tatkal, though officials noted that these numbers remain adjustable based on real-time local demand.
Important Guidelines for Passengers
Passengers are reminded that tokens are strictly non-transferable. To secure a booking, it is mandatory to carry a valid photo ID, such as an Aadhaar card, along with the complete details of all travelers. The railway authorities have clarified that once all token holders have been processed, any remaining Tatkal seats will be made available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. This initiative marks a significant step forward in enhancing the passenger experience at WCR stations.
