Bhopal now has a fourth railway gateway as the Nishatpura station officially commenced passenger operations on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The move is designed to decongest the city’s primary junctions and offer better rail access to thousands of residents. The inauguration was led by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, who flagged off the Dr. Ambedkar Nagar – Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Malwa Express (12919) at 5:00 PM to mark the station’s first official halt.
Key highlights of the new station opening include:
- Nishatpura station officially started operations on July 28, 2026.
- Malwa Express (12919) and Somnath Express (11465/66 and 11463/64) will now halt at Nishatpura.
- Trains will continue to maintain their existing scheduled stops at Bhopal Junction.
- The facility serves approximately 300,000 residents in neighborhoods like Karond, Chhola, and Ayodhya Bypass.
Ending the Ghost Station Era
The station, which was completed in June 2023 at an approximate cost of ₹6 crore, had been lying idle for nearly three years due to pending administrative clearances. This delay led locals to refer to the facility as a “ghost station.” With the official opening, the station is finally ready to serve the public, providing much-needed relief to commuters in the northern parts of the city.
Strategic Connectivity and Future Upgrades
The station is strategically located to benefit nearly 300,000 residents residing in areas such as Karond, Chhola, Bhanpur, Ayodhya Bypass, and Dwarka Nagar. By providing a closer access point for long-distance services, the railway aims to reduce the travel time and daily commute burden for these suburban populations.
To further boost infrastructure, a new road overbridge (ROB) is currently under construction. This unique project will directly link Bhopal station’s Platform Number 1 near Dwarka Nagar to the Nishatpura railway station. Spanning over six railway tracks, this structure will be a first-of-its-kind in India, significantly improving inter-station connectivity once completed. Railway officials have confirmed that while these trains now stop at Nishatpura, their regular halts at Bhopal Junction remain unchanged, ensuring that passengers have multiple convenient boarding options.
