West Central Railway introduces new token system for Tatkal ticket bookings from August 2026

Starting August 1, 2026, the West Central Railway (WCR) is set to roll out a structured token system for Tatkal ticket bookings at all reservation counters across its Bhopal, Jabalpur, and Kota divisions. This strategic move is designed to simplify the reservation process, minimize chaotic overcrowding at stations, and proactively curb the influence of unauthorized touts. By digitizing the queue management at the counter level, the railway administration aims to ensure a transparent and efficient experience for genuine passengers.

Key updates for passengers include:

  • AC class tokens: Distributed from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM.
  • Non-AC (Sleeper) class tokens: Distributed from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
  • Token limits: Initially set at 10 for AC and 15 for Non-AC classes per counter, subject to local demand adjustments.
  • Priority access: Category A travelers (self and immediate family) get preference upon showing valid photo ID.
  • Identity mandate: All tokens are non-transferable and require an Aadhaar card or valid photo ID for issuance.

Streamlining the Reservation Process

Under this new policy, the reservation counters will prioritize Category A bookings, which cover passengers booking for themselves, spouses, children, parents, siblings, or grandparents. Once these priority holders are processed, Category B—comprising all other individuals or groups—will be served. This categorization ensures that families and individuals have a fair opportunity to secure their travel plans without the stress of unmanaged queues.

Saurabh Jain, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager for the Kota Division, emphasized that the primary goal is passenger convenience and the reduction of station congestion. Supporting this, the administration clarified that the system is built to combat the menace of unauthorized agents who often disrupt the booking flow.

Fair Access to Remaining Seats

Railway officials have confirmed that the process is designed for maximum equity. Once all issued token holders have completed their transactions, any remaining Tatkal seats will be made available to other waiting passengers on a first-come, first-served basis. This ensures that every available seat is utilized effectively, providing a transparent alternative to the previous manual booking methods. Travelers are encouraged to plan their arrival at the station according to these new time slots to avoid missing out on their preferred class of travel.
