Modernizing the Passenger Experience
This announcement arrives during a significant phase of technological transformation for the national transporter. Indian Railways is currently transitioning to an upgraded Passenger Reservation System, replacing a framework that has served the network for nearly four decades. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Ministers of State for Railways Ravneet Singh and V. Somanna, have been closely monitoring this modernization to ensure a smooth transition for commuters.
The new infrastructure is engineered to handle higher booking volumes, provide faster transaction speeds, and significantly reduce waiting times. A major highlight of this upgrade is the integration of AI-powered technology, which has reportedly improved waitlist prediction accuracy from 53% to 94%. With approximately 88% of all tickets now booked online, these digital enhancements are vital for maintaining service efficiency.
Tips for a Successful Booking
To avoid last-minute hurdles, passengers are encouraged to log into the IRCTC portal at least 15 minutes before the 8:00 AM opening time. Utilizing the ‘Master List’ feature on the IRCTC website or app is highly recommended to expedite the passenger detail entry process during the booking rush.
For those relying on the Tatkal scheme, please note that bookings open one day prior to the train’s departure from its originating station. AC class Tatkal bookings start at 10:00 AM IST, while Sleeper class bookings open at 11:00 AM IST. Travelers should remember that Tatkal tickets often require Aadhaar verification and are subject to dynamic pricing models. As always, it is good practice to verify your train status, current platform details, and coach positioning via official railway channels shortly before your journey.
