The Northeast Frontier Railway has officially expanded its ‘One Station One Product’ (OSOP) initiative to three railway stations within Bihar’s Kishanganj district. This development, confirmed between August 18 and August 19, 2026, brings the Kishanganj, Galgalia, and Thakurganj stations into the fold of a nationwide program designed to boost local economies and promote indigenous craftsmanship.
Key highlights of this expansion include:
• Dedicated stalls at Kishanganj, Galgalia, and Thakurganj stations for local goods.
• Kishanganj station will feature the regional specialty, Litti-Chokha.
• Galgalia station will focus on the sale of fresh, locally sourced vegetables.
• Thakurganj station will highlight traditional handicrafts from the region.
• Stalls are allotted for durations ranging from 15 days to three months for a nominal fee.
Promoting Local Entrepreneurship
Managed by the Katihar Division of the Northeast Frontier Railway, this scheme aligns with the government’s ‘Vocal for Local’ vision. By providing high-footfall railway platforms as retail spaces, the initiative offers local producers, artisans, and self-help groups (SHGs) a direct gateway to a massive passenger base. The outlets themselves feature specialized designs developed by the National Design Institute to ensure they are both functional and visually representative of the region.
Eligibility for these stalls is broad, covering individual artisans, weavers, craftsmen, tribal communities, and micro-enterprises registered under MSME. The Kishanganj district administration is actively encouraging local entrepreneurs and SHGs to apply for these spaces to help scale their businesses and improve household incomes.
Nationwide Success of the OSOP Scheme
Since its launch on March 25, 2022, the OSOP scheme has seen significant growth. As of January 19, 2026, the program has expanded to 2,002 railway stations across India, featuring 2,326 operational outlets. This expansive network has already provided tangible economic benefits to over 1.32 lakh artisans and producers nationwide. With these latest additions in Bihar, the Indian Railways continues to strengthen its role as a catalyst for grassroots economic development, turning station platforms into vibrant hubs of local commerce and culture.
