The construction of the Munger-Mirzachauki four-lane road is moving at a fast pace. The Bihar government has confirmed that 79% of the work on this 100-kilometer stretch is now complete. Minister Dilip Jaiswal shared that the project is targeting full completion by April 2026. This project, built at a cost of ₹4,000 crore, will connect Munger to Mirzachauki and solve major traffic issues in the region.
Current Status of Construction Packages
The project is divided into four specific packages to ensure faster work. While some sections are nearly finished, others are catching up quickly. The stretch from Rasalpur to Mirzachauki is the most advanced section right now. Here is the detailed progress report for each package:
| Package Name | Route | Progress |
|---|---|---|
| Package 1 | Munger to Kharia | 70% Complete |
| Package 2 | Kharia to Old Sarai | 87% Complete |
| Package 3 | Choudharydih to Rasalpur | 70% Complete |
| Package 4 | Rasalpur to Mirzachauki | 90% Complete |
New Road Projects for Bhagalpur
Apart from the big four-lane project, the government has sanctioned money for other important roads in Bhagalpur. A sum of ₹50.17 crore has been approved for the Bhagalpur-Hansdiha Path. This will convert the road from Lohia Bridge to the Bypass into a four-lane street, helping about 6 lakh people.
Another approval of ₹114 crore was given for the Bhagalpur-Agarpur-Kotwali route. This money will be used for widening and strengthening the road to reduce heavy traffic jams. The government has also prioritized the widening of the Bhagalpur-Naugachia stretch on NH-31 because the current traffic is too high for the existing road.
Budget and Future Maintenance Plans
In the recent Bihar Budget for 2026-27, the Road Construction Department received ₹7,405 crore. A major policy change was also announced by Minister Dilip Jaiswal. Now, all single-lane roads under the department will be upgraded to double-lane roads to improve safety and speed.
Additionally, the central government has approved a new bypass connecting Punpun (NH-22) to Didarganj (NH-31). This will act like a ring road and reduce congestion. The construction of 34 new rural bridges in Bhagalpur has also been launched to connect villages better.
