A tragic incident took place at the Shahdara Railway Station in Delhi where a young man lost his life on the tracks. Rohit Kumar, a 22-year-old security guard, died after being hit by a train while he was chasing a thief who had just snatched his mobile phone. The incident occurred on Friday evening at platform number 3, causing panic among other passengers present at the station.
What Exactly Happened at the Station?
The victim, Rohit Kumar, was a resident of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, and worked at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital. While he was waiting at platform number 3, an unknown snatcher grabbed his phone and ran away. Rohit immediately started chasing the thief to recover his mobile.
During the chase, Rohit ran onto the railway tracks and failed to notice the approaching train. He was hit by the Delhi-Kathgodam Sampark Kranti Express (Train No. 15035). Although he was taken to a nearby hospital, the doctors declared him dead upon arrival due to the severity of the impact.
Police Investigation and Official Action
The Old Delhi Railway Station (ODRS) police have registered a case regarding the snatching and the accident. Police teams are currently scanning the CCTV footage from the station to identify and arrest the accused snatcher who managed to escape from the spot.
Authorities have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The crime team and forensic experts have inspected the site for evidence. The body has been sent to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital for post-mortem, and the family has been informed about the loss.
